Easter Chocolate

April 21, 2019

One of my favorite traditions from childhood is having gobs of chocolate on Easter. I know the holiday has much more significance than brightly colored eggs and chocolate bunnies in an Easter basket, but I’m just being honest here. I could blame my mom?

My mother is very creative and imaginative. Every Easter she made beautiful baskets for my brother and me. She filled the baskets with all sorts of fun things that kids love. But the most uncharacteristically permissive/decadent thing she gave us was our very own box of See’s chocolates! Quite an extravagance for those days. And probably downright unthinkable these days.

Is it any wonder that thoughts of chocolate swirl in my head at this time of year? Usually, I go to See’s and buy just a few of my all-time favorite dark chocolates. No way will I buy a whole box! But this year, I have a wedding to go to in a few weeks, and I only own one dress that is even remotely appropriate. Problem is, it’s a wee bit snug at the moment. Buying another dress is out of the question because with all the extra work I’m doing on our house remodeling project, I don’t have time for shopping.

So, there it is. No chocolates for me this year.

But then I went to an Easter party yesterday.

Well. . .maybe just one ear.

Happy Easter!
